Pedestrian Only Georgia Street Promenade To Serve As Extension Of The Indiana Convention Center, Lucas Oil Stadium

October 9, 2026 (INDIANAPOLIS) – Clients of the Capital Improvement Board’s (CIB) Indiana Convention Center & Lucas Oil Stadium (ICCLOS) have been asking for outdoor event space and it is now officially available.

“Indianapolis needs innovative, world-class public spaces to uphold our status as a premier host city and continue our reign as the Sports Capital of the World,” said Indianapolis Mayor Joe Hogsett. “These enhancements to Georgia Street ensure that this beloved stretch of downtown remains a signature gathering space for residents and visitors alike in the years to come.”

“Event planners have long expressed their desire for an outdoor event area to supplement their space inside the Indiana Convention Center & Lucas Oil Stadium,” said CIB Executive Director Andy Mallon. “The Georgia Street Promenade offers THE perfect location. It will be closed when in use for private events but otherwise open to the public and closed to vehicular traffic. It is outfitted with landscaping and amenities that make it an ideal location for lunch on a beautiful day or to host all kinds of events.”

The Georgia Street Promenade sits between Illinois Street and Capitol Avenue directly across from the Indiana Convention Center (ICC) and is contiguous with the ICCLOS’s newest anchor hotel, the Signia Hilton. The space is suitable for events ranging from receptions and meal functions to networking events and formal or casual gatherings. When not in use for ICCLOS events, it is open to the public from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. daily.

The Georgia Street Promenade features four distinct sections:

  • The Garden is steps away from the Georgia Cube entrance of the ICC and consists of approximately 16,170 square feet of space. The flooring is high-quality, pet-friendly turf. Tents and staging may be placed in this area.
  • The Terrace is positioned in the west-center of the block and includes approximately 6,125 total square feet of open space with table and chair seating and the option for placement of tents. Flooring consists of pavers and concrete.
  • The Lawn is located in the east-center of the block and includes approximately 6,548 total square feet of pet-friendly turf, table and chair seating, trees at the north and south ends, option for placement of tents, and a permanent 38’ x 7’ x 6’ platform bench suitable for programming/performances.
  • The Grove borders Illinois Street and consists of table and chair seating in a heavily-shaded area with trees, limestone boulders and paver and concrete flooring.

Other features of the Georgia Street Promenade include:

  • A permanent food and beverage container with offerings that may be customized for private events
  • Bollards to prevent the encroachment of vehicular traffic
  • A north lane permanently closed to vehicular traffic and designed to serve as a pedestrian-only thoroughfare
  • Permanent, programmable lighting
  • Nearly fifty trees, compared with five prior to the re-design, that will improve the air and water quality while reducing the urban heat island effect
  • Improved stormwater infrastructure with an innovative underground infiltration basin that will reduce demand on the city’s stormwater system

Partners in the project include construction manager AECOM Hunt, design firm Merritt Chase and DLZ.
